Trip to Seghe & Munda, Western Province -May 2015

Find the beautiful pictures of our M&E visit to Western Province in my computer and kind of recalling the beautiful trip we've conducted to Seghe and Munda. Apart from our normal M&E field activities, we also enjoying leisure activities during the trip. The picture bellow is taken when we were traveling for a field visit to Ilolo Cattle Farm project in Vangugu Islands of the Western Province.

It is my first time in Seghe and travelling around the part of the Marovo Lagoon were kind of  amazing. To know more about Seghe, please view the link provided  http://travelingluck.com/Oceania/Solomon+Islands/Solomon+Islands+(general)/_2103571_Seghe.html

Seghe is 247 km from the main capital of Solomon Islands, Honiara. It is located in the western part of the Solomon Islands, in Georgia Island, Western Province. The most convenient way to get there is by Plane which takes about 45-60 minutes. Alternative to that, you can travel by Ship which takes a day or two before you reach Seghe, depending on the type of ship you board. However, travel by ship is pretty amazing (if you are a patient traveler) because you will enjoy yourself watching the amazing Marovo Lagoon and the beautiful Islands around it. Below is one of the islands in the western part of the Marovo Lagoon, but its not that beautiful compared to other Islands in the main lagoon which have white colorful beaches.

The picture below is the view of the Ilolo Cattle Farm from our boat. The farm is located in Cuba (Don't know why or where they get the name), Vangugu Island and is a newly established farm. The current fencing completed is 500 hectares with total of about 14 buttocks already completed and ready for the cattle's dispersing. The work on the cattle project establishment is still ongoing and the estimated target is to reach about 2,000 hectares of fencing in land.

We also travel to Munda, which takes about 15 minutes from Seghe and about 60 minutes from Honiara by Solomon Airlines. Munda is located in the western end of the Island of New Georgia. When in Munda, we also visited the Munda Airport Project which was funded by the New Zealand Government through NZAID. Solomon Islands Government also allocate budget as contributions to support its components of the project.

The picture above is taken during the evening work to the project site when the runway cease operations. We also take a ride to Noro to see the Soltuna Ltd factory, which cost us about $40/person for both way trips, but it's worthwhile to see the only cannery factory in Solomon Islands. There are many other interesting places to visit in Munda especially if you are a tourist. See the link: Top things to do in Munda
